Chile’s largest port will receive 20 Konecranes trucks

San Antonio Terminal Internacional SA (STI) has begun delivery of 19 Konecranes Liftace reachstacker and a Konecranes Liftace empty container handler at its operations in the port of San Antonio in central Chile. The first shipment of six units arrived back in July 2022, the second later in the year and the third in early 2023.

SAAM Puertos SA is a Chilean multinational company providing foreign trade services in port terminals, towing and logistics across America. Stevedoring Service of America (SSA) Marine is an American multinational company providing terminal, cargo and related services. The two companies jointly own and operate the STI Terminal in the Port of San Antonio, the largest port in Chile and one of the largest in South America. This demanding work environment requires a large amount of reliable container handling equipment to ensure maximum efficiency. When it came to renewing its forklift fleet, STI, with the support of local dealer TREX, chose Konecranes after a rigorous bidding process that found the best equipment and services to meet their needs.

“We continue to make progress on our development plans to increase our efficiency, improve worker safety and have greener machines,” says Rodrigo Galleguillos, General Manager of STI. “In this way, the future of Chile’s most important port terminal will be geared towards long-term sustainability.”

“STI were very specific about what they wanted from their new equipment: high-quality, durable forklifts, equipped with the latest technology and designed for the highest level of safety and productivity,” says David Olguín Tobar, Product Manager at TREX. “The Konecranes solution could offer everything. And we back that up with our own attentive on-site service and long-term after-sales support.”

“This is a milestone for us and the market,” says Andrés Ramirez, Regional Sales Development Manager, Lift Trucks, Konecranes. “Working closely with TREX, we have developed a ‘True Partnership’ concept together with STI that ensures our machines perform excellently throughout their life cycle.”

Each of the 19 reachstackers is a Konecranes Liftace 4532 TCE 5. A strong box chassis and a wide drive axle with a long wheelbase ensure high stability, safe handling and long-lasting performance. The longitudinally sliding cab offers the driver comfort, flexibility and easy access. In compliance with SOLAS, the Konecranes static weighing system provides a verified gross mass for all loaded containers. The empty container handler is a Konecranes Liftace 6/7 ECC 9, a powerful, durable and safe garden tool that can lift up to 9 tons.

All 20 trucks are equipped with an HLL filter system (Hydraulic Long-Life), which extends the oil change interval to up to 12,000 operating hours thanks to its particularly fine filtering. With fewer oil changes, STI can save costs and there is more uptime as well as less waste oil. An AR (Augmented Reality) 3D sensor and 2D camera with on-screen alerts provide better visibility around the entire truck. Many other features on both trucks improve performance and safety and minimize downtime.

These reach stackers and the empty container stacker are also Smart Connected Lift Trucks. TRUCONNECT Remote Monitoring tracks the performance of each truck using information such as operational and usage data, fleet optimization and verified container mass measured by the reachstackers. TRUCONNECT Premium expands the basic analysis with tire pressure and shock monitoring. STI can access all of its fleet information online in one convenient place through the customer portal
