Erin Horvath appointed UNFI’s new Chief Supply Chain Transformation Officer

Erin Horvath has been appointed Chief Supply Chain Transformation Officer at United Natural Foods, UNFI. In this new corporate role, Horvath will work cross-functionally to build UNFI’s transformation agenda and future capabilities, drive value creation for shareholders and create an enhanced experience for customers and suppliers. She will report to Sandy Douglas, CEO of UNFI.

“As we work to be the most valuable partner to our grocery retail customers, we must evolve our supply chain network, embrace automation, create new efficiencies and capabilities across our facilities, and leverage technology, data and insights to enhance our customer experience,” said Douglas.

“Erin brings a wealth of experience including a unique combination of strategy execution, operations, customer analysis and software implementation. She has successfully worked across teams and departments throughout her career, and I look forward to seeing how her experience and fresh thinking best serve Mark Bushway, our Chief Supply Chain Officer, and Louis Martin, our Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer can work together to achieve positive outcomes,” Douglas said.

Since taking on the role of CEO in August 2021, Douglas has repositioned UNFI’s leadership team and sharpened the company’s focus on key operational priorities to better support its customers, suppliers, employees and the planet. The addition of Horvath to the UNFI leadership team supports the company’s focus on continuous improvement and its continued work to create a more efficient, expansive and higher quality food supply network.

Horvath will oversee the transformation of UNFI’s fulfillment network and lead automation initiatives, including the recently announced automation agreement with Symbotic. Her work will support the company’s long-term strategy and leverage her 17 years of experience at AmerisourceBergen Corp. has collected, a global pharmaceutical wholesale company with sales of more than 200 billion US dollars.

While at AmerisourceBergen, Horvath most recently served as Chief Transformation Officer with a focus on accelerating the company’s high-growth, high-value subsidiaries, strategic partnerships, and merger and acquisition activities. She also has extensive experience leading AmerisourceBergen’s distribution network in roles of President, Distribution Services (2019-2021) and Senior Vice President, Distribution Services (2017-2019) where she leads a team of over 5,000 employees and more than Manages 50 distribution centers. During that time, she designed a five-year sales and customer operations strategy, led the construction of several new state-of-the-art greenfield distribution centers, and assembled a diverse, cross-functional and geographically distributed team focused on optimizing the company’s investment in its warehouse automation. She also spent time in senior leadership positions overseeing replenishment, continuous improvement and commercial operations.

Before joining AmerisourceBergen, Horvath was a management consultant at Smart and Associates and Arthur Andersen Business Consulting. She also worked at McMaster-Carr Supply Co. and the US Department of the Navy as a contract specialist.
