Permission was granted last week to rehabilitate a hotel to provide storage space in the supply-poor southeast.

Despite nearly 20,000 objections, Hertsmere City Council has given broad approval to redevelop the former Mercure Hotel in Bushey to provide some 322,000 ft2 of storage and industrial space off the A41.

Developer Regen Properties secured approval for a 150,000-square-foot project earlier this year, but demand for space in the area has been so great that it ramped up the project by securing additional lots adjacent to the hotel property.

The program is expected to be available to residents in 2024.
