Dematic was recently selected by French clothing manufacturer and retailer Kiabi to improve their stock selection processes with a focus on the family clothing specialist’s e-commerce business. Under the contract, Dematic will supply a fully automated system powered by Dematic software.
The solution will initially consist of 12 multi-shuttle lanes equipped with ergonomic goods-to-person (GTP) stations and a state-of-the-art handling system. The site where the installation will take place is in the town of Lauwin-Planque in northern France and covers 66,000 m². Work is scheduled to begin immediately and be completed in 2024.
The setup was originally automated by another vendor, with Dematic brought in to complement the current lineup regarding its e-commerce business, including family apparel and other products for the company’s online business. The French clothing company, whose corporate vision is to “make life easier for families by weaving responsible fashion and sustainable solutions together”, has committed to offering its customers a feel-good fashion journey and a renewed omnichannel shopping experience with its 553 Contacts in 25 countries and its e-shop. Against this background, according to Kiabi, Dematic’s flexible omnichannel solution was a strong argument for choosing the warehouse automation and software specialist.
Dematic’s solution makes it possible to feed both e-commerce and branch flows in an optimized and agile manner. “This new installation allows us to quintuple our preparation and distribution capabilities for our web and local collections in Northern Europe. The choice of Dematic was based on the quality of the proposed solution, which the Dematic teams worked extensively on in the pre-sales phase,” explains Marine Pomart, Kiabi Supply Chain Director, adding: “The Agile solution is it also able to navigate through web preparation constraints, save and reserve disk space in the defined requirements. Finally, its development allows us to meet our growth challenges and our stated vision in the medium and short term.”
“Kiabi, which continues its development in France and internationally, has just placed its trust in us for the years to come by entrusting us with its new omnichannel order preparation unit. It is also a chance for Dematic to demonstrate our ability to demonstrate our ability to integrate and interface with tools already present on the retailer’s logistics flagship,” says Alain Bussod, Head of France Dematic.
