Joloda Hydraroll, the global leader in loading and unloading solutions, has partnered with Sai Raj, a fiberglass former, body builder and conversion specialist in Kenya.
For Sai Raj’s long-time customer AirFlo Kenya, Joloda Hydraroll has supported the development of a new air cargo trailer that can be loaded and unloaded much more efficiently. According to Joloda, the process is faster, safer and does not require forklifts.
AirFlo Kenya is a specialist logistics solutions provider for perishable goods such as fresh cut flowers, vegetables and fruit. In early 2022, the company approached Sai Raj with a request to build a new air cargo trailer to transport pallets from the warehouse to the airside operations at Nairobi Airport, where they would be unloaded onto the aircraft. AirFlo Kenya wanted to make the loading and unloading process safer and more efficient compared to traditional loading and unloading practices that rely on forklifts or pallet trucks.
Sai Raj chose to partner with Joloda Hydraroll to develop a bespoke roll-away vehicle to meet the specifications. Joloda Hydraroll’s Pneumatic Roller Track (PRT) uses raise and lower roller technology and is integrated into the floor of the trailer, which is adjusted to its length.
The addition of Joloda Hydraroll’s loading and unloading solutions and expertise has enabled Sai Raj to build and deliver its first air cargo trailer – named Cargotuff by Sai Raj – to AirFlo Kenya. This allows operators to transport up to four ULDs at the same time and load and unload them easily and quickly. The moving floor is pneumatically operated, so air freight can be easily rolled in and out of the trailer without a forklift.
Amar Bahra, Director at Sai Raj states, “We contacted Joloda Hydraroll because their customer service was exceptional and the prices were competitive. We thought the installation phases would be complicated, but we felt comfortable. The installation was completed in just three days, which allowed us to keep downtime to a minimum.”
The trailer has been in daily use since it was delivered in May 2022. The AirFlo Kenya team found that loading and unloading the trailer is now much faster. With the roller bed loading solution, the process is also safer as the pneumatic rollers are automatically lowered when the trailer is on the move.
New revenue opportunities
Working with Joloda Hydraroll has opened up new avenues for Sai Raj. “By working with Joloda Hydraroll, we can now offer other supply chain companies new solutions; and we’ve already started having those talks,” says Bahra.
As the logistics market in Kenya is experiencing accelerated growth, Bahra also sees this project as a sign for the future: “We are proud to be able to offer such a solution in Kenya – it has been a very positive journey for us. There is a lot of room for growth in logistics in Kenya as well as across Africa and by partnering with Joloda Hydraroll we already have a head start to meet such demands.”
Arjan Nobel, Global Sales Manager, Joloda Hydraroll summarizes: “We are thrilled to have supported Sai Raj – our first customer in Kenya, Central East Africa – with their new air cargo trailer. Kenya, like many countries in Africa, has a growing and demanding logistics market that exports horticultural produce in bulk to Europe.
“Doing this quickly and efficiently is becoming increasingly important – and this is where the loading and unloading process in particular can make a big difference. The addition of the Joloda Hydraroll integrated roller bed loading system means the air cargo trailer can be loaded and unloaded with ease. The whole process is safer and faster, helping to reduce the time perishable cargo is in transit.”
