USPS is proposing an increase in 2022 holiday shipping rates beginning October 2nd

Continuing the annual rate increases that began in 2020, USPS has announced its proposed temporary rate adjustments for the peak season. The adjustments are to cover additional holiday processing costs. As in previous years, the following services are affected: Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, First-Class Package Service, Parcel Select Ground, and USPS Retail Ground rates. Subject to positive review by the Postal Regulatory Committee, the USPS peak season temporary fees would take effect at 12:00 a.m. Central on October 2 and remain in effect until 12:00 a.m. Central on January 22, 2023.

Note: There are no planned rate adjustments for international services, parcel return rates, or Parcel Select Lightweight rates.

2022 Holiday Shipping Rate Increases

Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express – Holiday Shipping Rate Increase 2022 (Commercial Basis)

  • Commercially:
    • $0.75 increase for PM and PME flat rate boxes and envelopes
    • $0.25 increase for zones 1-4, 0-10 lbs
    • $0.80 increase for zones 5-9, 0-10 lbs
    • Increase $0.75 for Zones 1-4, 11-25 lbs
    • $2.80 increase for zones 5-9, 11-25 lbs
    • Increase $3.00 for Zones 1-4, 26-70 lbs
    • Increase $6.50 for zones 5-9, 26-70 lbs

The most notable changes for 2021-2022 Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express tariffs are taking place in zones 5-9, with 26-70 pound items seeing a $1.50 increase from last year’s tariff increase.

Premier Parcel Service, Parcel Select Ground, USPS Retail Ground – 2022 holiday shipping rate increase (commercial basis)

  • Commercially:
    • $0.25 increase for zones 1-4, 0-10 lbs
    • Increase $0.40 for zones 5-9, 0-10 lbs
    • Increase $0.75 for Zones 1-4, 11-25 lbs
    • Increase $1.60 for zones 5-9, 11-25 lbs
    • Increase $3.00 for Zones 1-4, 26-70 lbs
    • Increase $5.50 for zones 5-9, 26-70 lbs

Similar to the previous set of rates, the most notable changes for First Class Parcel Service, Parcel Select Ground and USPS Retail Ground rates are in zones 1-9 for 26-70 pound shipments with an increase of 0, $50 over last year’s prices.
